Alan McGlashan

Alan Fleming McGlashan MC (Bedworth, Nottinghamshire, 1899 - London, 1998) joined the Royal Flying Corps, later the RAF. He flew over German lines, and was awarded the MC and the Croix de Guerre for his observations. His later career was varied: he trained as a general practitioner and travelled to the North Pole on a tramp steamer. For many years he was a drama critic for "The Observer". During World War II he was commissoned into the Royal Army Medical Corps and served on medical selection boards. He trained as a psychotherapist of the Jung style. He practiced therapy in Harley Street and Sloane Avenue, his patients including HRH The Prince of Wales and, as she would become, Diana, Princess of Wales. He was married twice, but had no children. He was a close friend of Laurens van der Post. His bust is in the garden at Highgrove. He died aged 98.
