Yaakov Peri (b.
February 20 ,1944 ) Born in Tel Aviv Yaakov Peri head of the Israeli Security Agency, the Israeli domestic intelligence agency (known in Israel by the acronym Shabak) from 1988 to 1994.Pre-ISA
Following his army service he studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University and earned a B.A. in Middle East studies and Jewish history. Music was one of his great loves, and he played in the Gadna Symphonic Orchestra, in the "Jerusalem Voice of Israel" Orchestra, in the Haifa Symphony, and more. In the ISA
1966 - recruited to the ISA and trained as a field officer in the Arab sector.
1972 - appointed to a senior position in the Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria Command.
1975 - appointed head of the ISA Training Division.
1978 - appointed head of the Northern Command
1981 - appointed head of Jerusalem, Judah and Samaria Command
1987 - appointed deputy director of the ISA
1988 - appointed ISA Director 1994 - departed for a period of study in Harvard University, where he completed a degree in economics and business management in the business school.
1995 - retired from the ISA
Peri introduced structural changes in the Shabak in order to address problems that arose during the
First Intifada and deal with the new situation in Israel in the wake of theOslo Accords .After retiring from the Shabak, he went into business. He was CEO of Cellcom Israel from 1995-2003.
