Alexander Baburin

Alexander Baburin

Alexander Baburin (also Alex or Alexandar Baburin, born February 19, 1967 in Gorky) is a Russian-Irish International Grandmaster of chess. Since 1993 he lives in Dublin, Ireland and is editor-in-chief of the e-mail distributed chess newspaper "Chess Today".

Baburin became Irish Champion in 2008, the first year in which he had entered the competition. He cited past comments from fellow Irish players as the reason he did not enter previously. His participation in the Irish Olympiad team has generated some controversy in the past.
