Jason Kelvin Scotland (born February 18, 1979 in Morvant, Trinidad and Tobago) is a Trinidadian footballer who plays as a striker for Welsh club Swansea City.

Career

After playing for Malick Senior Comprehensive School, Scotland went on to San Juan Jabloteh, Defence Force and Dundee United before joining United's Tayside rivals St. Johnstone on August 23, 2005.

Scotland made his belated entry into the Trinidad and Tobago national football team by scoring the two goals that steered St. Johnstone to a 2-1 win over visiting Scottish Premier League side Dundee on January 19, 2003. Ian McCall, manager of city rivals Dundee United, soon brought him to Tannadice Park that summer after Scotland secured a work permit. He made his United début on August 31, 2003 against Rangers and scored five times in his first nine starts in the league. In 2005 Scotland was force to return to Trinidad after his application for a work permit renewal was turned down. However, he had an application to play for St. Johnstone approved and did enough to warrant a place in Trinidad and Tobago's 2006 World Cup squad.

Scotland has also appeared in a national advertising campaign in Scotland for Irn-Bru with the "Scotland's going to the World Cup" catchphrase to coincide with the Trinidad and Tobago team's appearance in the 2006 competition while at the same time mocking the Scotland national football team's failure to qualify. The campaign features Scotland in posters, newspaper and television adverts. Many Scots took to supporting the Trinidad and Tobago squad (seven of whose members play professionally in Scotland) in the 2006 World Cup.

In September 2006, Scotland faced his former club Dundee United for the first time in a Scottish League Cup match, and scored the opening goal in a 3-0 victory. On February 28 2007, Scotland was the subject of racist taunts by a small section of Motherwell fans during St. Johnstone's visit to Fir Park in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. In April 2007, Scotland was one of three St. Johnstone players named in the SPFA's Scottish Division One 'Team of the Year', voted for by the managers.cite news|date="April 23, 2007|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_div_1/6586371.stm|title=Division One 'Team of the Year'|publisher=BBC Sport website] At the end of the 2006-07 season, in his two seasons with St. Johnstone, Scotland had scored 33 goals in 66 league games for the club, an average of one goal every two games.
