Performances

Recently, it has performed several large scale shows in Belfast's Waterfront Hall, including "Circus of Wonders: The Good, the Bad and the Tourists" and "Urban Circus". It has also been key in organising Belfast's Festival of Fools, an annual street festival showcasing many international artists, which first started in 2004. History

BCCS was set up in 1985 by Donal McKendry and Mike Moloney. It started on a patch of grass every Saturday where young people could learn circus skills. Since then it has used several different premises, including various church halls and the Crescent Arts Centre. Today the school has its own premises in Gordon Street in Belfast.

Outreach

BCCS has many outreach programmes which involves travelling to youth and community centres to take workshops. They have programmes throughout Belfast and further afield. One programme they started in Lisburn has now become its own Circus School and functions separately from BCCS.

Links abroad

BCCS has links with many overseas circus schools, and often organises trips to visit them. One of the most notable links is with Australia. Two trips have been organised in recent years to train at the National Institute of Circus Arts in Melbourne. Also, members of Circus Oz have visited Belfast and trained members of BCCS. Recently, a number of staff at BCCS have left Belfast to move to Australia.
