The school is a part of the Glendale Unified School District.
The school serves the city of La Crescenta,the city of Glendale and the GUSD portion of La Cañada Flintridge. CVHS opened its doors for the first time in September 1960. As of 2010, the principal is Dr. Michelle Doll. The athletic teams are known as the Falcons.
Crescenta Valley received a National Blue Ribbon School award in 2000 and a California Distinguished School award in 2005. Crescenta Valley received a Bravo Award for excellence in the arts from Los Angeles County in 2005.

CVTV
CVTV is a broadcasting team that airs on local channel 21 to announce the school bulletin and other related news. The class is advised by Diana Brown.
Journalism
Journalism is advised by Patricia Deitch and prints The Falcon, issued schoolwide monthly. It generally covers school athletics, club and extracurricular activity, local events, outstanding students and teachers, and media reviews.
Yearbook
Yearbook is advised by Brian Landisi and designs and markets the Talon yearbook. It has won many awards and is part of Walsworth Publishing Company.

Crescenta Valley has a dance team which participates in many competitions. It has won many awards.

AFJROTC
The AFJROTC program (CA-882) is run by Lieutenant Colonel David J. Worley and Master Sergeant David Cooper. The mission of the AFJROTC program is to build better citizens for America. The cadets of CA-882 have completed thousands of community service hours and are recognized throughout the community. The cadets are also recognized with over 25 national awards each year. CA-882 has been a proud recipient of the AFJROTC Distinguished Unit Award for the 2005-2006, 2006–2007, and 2007-2008 (with merit) and the Outstanding Organization Award for the 2009-2010 school year.
