WVIK (90.3 FM) is a 31,000 watt radio station in Rock Island, Illinois, in northwestern Illinois along the Mississippi River. This station serves the Quad Cities, eastern Iowa, and northwestern Illinois. Augustana College (Illinois) is the station licensee, authorized by the
Federal Communications Commission.

WAUG - Augustana's Student Radio Station

WVIK is not the student radio station at Augustana College. Augustana College's campus-wide student station is called WAUG. This station is accessible via college cable system on 97.9 MHz and available via streaming audio on their web site [http://waug.augustana.edu/ WAUG web site]

Mission

WVIK is a professionally operated public radio station, broadcasting at 90.3 FM in the Quad Cities, and at 95.7 FM in Dubuque, Iowa. Owned and operated by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, the station broadcasts classical music, NPR and local news and public affairs programs for an 18-county area serving northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa. WVIK also operates the Augustana Public Radio Information Service (APRIS)—“Radio That Reads”—a free service for persons with visual difficulty

Format

Of the 168 hours in WVIK’s broadcast week, nearly half are locally produced. From classical music (which makes up the bulk of our broadcast day) and public affairs programming like Midwest Week, About Books, Art Talks, and Quad City Oral Histories to local concerts by the Quad City Symphony and the Handel Oratorio Society, and the award-winning Rock Island Lines, WVIK takes pride in producing quality local programs to compliment the best fare from NPR and APM.

History

* 1980 - Augustana Public Radio is born as WVIK signs on at its original frequency of 90.1 FM.
* 1991 - WVIK moves to 90.3 FM in the Quad Cities and adds a translator frequency at 95.7 FM in Dubuque, Iowa.
