It is part of the Christian Parent Controlled Schools of Tasmania. Launceston Christian School (LCS) caters for students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. The school has 550 students and the principal is Mr. Erik Hofsink. In 2001 Years 11 and 12 were included in the school curriculum to cater for growing demand for a Christian approach to the college education.

Famous Teachers

The most famous teacher by far to join the school was Mr Hans Schmidt, a well known Physics teacher whose recent involvement in the Hadron Collider was instrumental in the project's success. He is tipped number one to become principle next.

Other famous teachers include Mr Roodt ("the former South African cricket coach"), Mr R Morgan ("debut player in Hawthorn's 1989 premiership"), Mr N Hill ("2003 Iron-Man Champion"), Mr Bosker ("CEO of droppy central, major sponsor of the Geelong Football Club"), Mr Litchendonk ("2004 US Snowboarding Champion") & Mrs Fitzallen (recently starred on the popular Gordan Ramsey television series "Hell's Kitchen").

Vision 2010 Project

In 2007 a restructuring, corresponding with a growth project "Vision 2010", combined year 10 into the college branch. 2010 aims to provide a clear pathway into the college system.

Part of the 2010 projects goal is to increase the retention of students entering the college system, current trends indicate that this is happening.

The Future 2009 & Departure of LCS Greats

2009 is expected to be a fantastic year, however it is sad that there are many of the former greats leaving the school. People such as Tim Vandenberg, Ryan Letter, Tye Van Dyk, David Carew, Ryan Eastly, Joel delamontte, Ben Styne and Lourense Theoron will be greatly missed by all.
