Numerous theories arose during the Iraq UFO sightings. Some Iraqi civilians believed that the
UFO s were sent byGod to protect holy and religious sites. [ [http://www.rense.com/general37/filers41603.htm UFOs Over Iraq, UK, US, And South America ] ] Others claimed the craft was from outer space. However skeptics refute this claim, saying that the UFOs were either UAVs -Unmanned Aerial Vehicles , debris from explosions, planet s orhoax es.Rumors of an Iraq base
Many UFO groups suggest that
Saddam Hussein had anArea 51 -like base somewhere inIraq . [ [http://www.ufoinfo.com/roundup/v07/rnd0751.shtml UFO Roundup: Iraq Base December 17, 2002] ] According to these groups, they believe, the base housed a UFO that crashed either during theGulf War in1991 orOperation Desert Fox in1998 . [ [http://www.unexplainable.net/artman/publish/article_875.shtml Alleged UFO Crash in Iraq] ] However there is little evidence that such a base exists or that the UFO crash even happened.Disputed photographs
One of the disputed photos was the alleged photo of a UFO taken while one of the statues of Saddam Hussein was being torn down. According to the [http://www.iwasabducted.com/ufogallery/baghdad.htm source] the photo depicts a dark, rectangular-shaped object. However, it is unclear if this is a
UFO or a piece of debris that fell off when the statue was demolished.2008
During August and September of 2008, unidentified green orbs were seen flying at night over the International Zone in Baghdad as well as several U.S. military bases in East Baghdad. The orbs, or lights, moved at a high rate of speed, made erratic, sharp movements, and operated without making any discernable noise whatsoever. The most common theory among U.S. and Iraqi soldiers who saw the lights was that they were UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles); however, UAVs operating as close to the ground as the lights were would have made some degree of discernable noise. At certain times, large groups of soldiers would gather to watch the lights after dark.
