2006 Census) is a village in northCounty Laois , Ireland, situated in the foothills of theSlieve Bloom Mountains on the R422Mountmellick toBirr road. The name comes from the Irish, which roughly translated means 'Wood of the clear stream'. Each year "The Festival of the Mountain" is held in June or July in the nearby Slieve Blooms. From the festival, amongst other acolades, the strongest woman and man are decided.Rosenallis is also important in the history of the
Quaker religion, with William Edmundson, founder of the Quakers in Ireland, buried outside the village in theSociety of Friends graveyard. The village also has two churches (Roman Catholic andChurch of Ireland ) as well as a village school, community centre and small shops and pubs, typical of an Irish village.Its location at the base of the
Slieve Bloom Mountains makes the village an ideal base or stopping point on a tour of the region.Website
