The new principal will be Mr. Patrick Bathras for the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Dykstra wanted something that worked for him and his family, so he will become principal of Southern Middle School in Lothian. This will be Severna Park's 4th principal in 4 years.

everna Park High School in the news

* In 2003, Severna Park High School received the Maryland Center for Character Education School of the Year Award for all of their outstanding efforts in helping students to develop their full potential as adults and citizens.

* In May 2007, an investigation took place to see whether several students cheated on Advanced Placement testing. It was found that the problem partially lied with the administrator who administered the test, as he never explained to the students what they could or couldn't do during testing and break periods. Students involved were allowed to retake the test. The investigation caused a stir not only in Severna Park, but around the county.

*In March 2007, then-Boys Lacrosse coach Jim Beardmore [ [http://www.examiner.com/a-833721~Controversial_Beardmore_finds_home.html?cid=rss-Baltimore Controversial Beardmore finds home] ] took his team to the Sandy Point State Park for the annual Polar Bear Plunge without the principal's approval in January 2007. He resigned from the job and accepted another job with the Denver Outlaws while the team was still able to win another state title in lacrosse after his departure.
