He previously played in the National Hockey League for the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, Columbus Blue Jackets.

Playing career

Brathwaite was born in Ottawa, Ontario to parents who had emigrated to Canada from Barbados in 1964.

During his time playing for the Calgary Flames, Brathwaite became a fan-favourite. Chants of "Freddy" was quite common after one of his acrobatic saves. He was traded to St.Louis by Flames' General Manager Craig Button as part of a trade for goaltender Roman Turek.

Brathwaite is currently playing for the Adler Mannheim in the German Ice Hockey League.

Brathwaite appeared in the Jermaine Dupri rap video "Welcome To Atlanta" with the rappers the St. Lunatics. The scene was shot at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
