The Wine Institute is the public policy advocacy organization of 1,021 California wineries. Its mission is "to initiate state, federal, and international public policy to enhance the environment for the responsible consumption and enjoyment of wine".
The institute's home office is in San Francisco, with offices in Sacramento, Washington DC, six regions of the United States, and seven foreign countries. It also oversees the work of 45 state contract consultants.
The Wine Institute and Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) provided unrestricted grants to fund some of Stanton Peele's work.
