Thomas Preston (scientist)

Thomas Preston (1860-1900) was an Irish scientist whose research was concerned with heat, magnetism, and spectroscopy. He is most known for his experiments on how spectral lines are affected by magnetic fields.

A student of George Fitzgerald [Bruce J. Hunt, The Maxwellians, Cornell University Press (2005). ISBN 0801482348, 9780801482342] , he worked at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin. While at the latter, he wrote a book, "The Theory of Light". [John E. Davies, The Theory of Light Source: Bull. New York Math. Soc. Volume 1, Number 3 (1891), 75-78] .
