Carlotta, California

Carlotta is an unincorporated small town located in Humboldt County, California. Carlotta is about convert|11|mi|km east of US Route 101 on California State Route 36. Official estimates indicate that Carlotta's population is about 300 people. The town is quiet and mostly made up of pastures and forests along the Van Duzen River valley. The main access point to the federally preserved Headwaters Forest is found in Carlotta. The town enjoys wonderful weather, except for occasional winter storms and high wind gusts. It's an area that is isolated from urban California and has experienced little, if any, growth. The nearest airport is the Fortuna airport, about convert|7|mi|km away. Carlotta is about convert|35|mi|km away from the Humboldt county seat, Eureka, California.

Carlotta was once home to the famed Carlotta Hotel, notable for the fact that it burned down two times. After burning down for the second time in 1996, the owners decided not to rebuild.

In the state legislature Carlotta is located in the 2nd Senate District, represented by Democrat Pat Wiggins, and in the 1st Assembly District, represented by Democrat Patty Berg. Federally, Carlotta is located in California's 1st congressional district.
