Pittsburgh Junction, Ohio

Pittsburgh Junction is an unincorporated community in western Green Township, Harrison County, Ohio, United States. It was named for the industrial heritage of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is located only 58 miles west of the much larger city. It is located at latitude 40.33194 and longitude -80.95083 with an elevation of 1,146 feet, little more than a mile from the intersection of U.S. Route 22 with State Route 151.

History

President-elect Abraham Lincoln's train stopped in Pittsburgh Junction on its way to Washington, D.C. in 1860. There is an Ohio historical marker in this small crossroads commemorating the event. Lincoln spoke briefly to the crowd and lunched at a small hotel which no longer exists. Unfortunately, his words were not recorded for posterity.
