August 1 ,1847 -September 18 ,1915 ) was the Bishop of the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles (now theRoman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles ) from 1903-1915.Bishop Conaty was born in the town of Kilnaleck in
Ireland . He was ordained apriest in December 1872. He became therector ofThe Catholic University of America (CUA) in 1896 and was ordained abishop in 1901, remaining with the University until his appointment as head of the Diocese of Monterey-Los Angeles in March 1903.CUA's Conaty Hall, a popular freshman residence hall, is named after him.
Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto High School inLos Angeles, California also bears his name.External links
