homepage =Richmond Hill High School (RHHS) is a public
high school in Richmond Hill, Georgia,United States ; which teaches grades 9-12. RHHS is currently located in the center of Richmond Hill on 1 Wildcat Drive, the main street which is named after the school's mascot, Ethan Vernon. In 1994, RHHS moved to its current location which is compiled of four separate halls for classrooms, connected through one major hall which leads you from the gym to the external classrooms on the side of the school next to the Richmond Hill Middle School campus. The first and fourth hallways are the newest additions to the establishment, constructed in approximately 2003-2004.
Richmond Hill High School does not have an auditorium, and so many school functions occur in the gymnasium or in the cafeteria. Before its present location, it was located at the current site of Richmond Hill Middle School which is located directly adjacent to the high school campus and is connected by a covered walkway.
Dual enrollment programs
RHHS is currently involved in the Dual/Joint Enrollment Program which allows students to partake in classes at either
Armstrong Atlantic State University orSavannah Technical College . Some examples of these classes include Cosmetology and Engineering Specialist Training. With dual enrollment, the student receive .5 credits for each quarter completed.Clubs
RHHS has numerous clubs and other organizations which meet before and after school and partake in community service. Some of these include
Beta Club ,National Honor Society ,SADD , Art Club,FCA , M-Pact, Interact Club, World Cultures Club, and the newly added Environmental Club.Although the school has many club opportunities for students to get involved in the school has continually denied to it's Gay and Lesbian and friends of those to start a RHHS Gay-Straigh Alliance althought the Equal Access Act of the United States of America delcares that unlawful.
Marching band
The school's
marching band has won several competitions and has played at everyfootball game and many local parades and festivals. Local controversy occurred when they were invited to perform inWashington, D.C. but were prevented from going by the Bryan County Board of Education (Sallie Brewer, Superintendent of Schools).=Sports=
Arguably the most popular sports are the
football andbasketball teams, even though thesoccer ,tennis , andbaseball teams tend to have done better in recent years. The cheerleaders have also won several competitions. However, the most well known athlete from this school Ethan Vernon plays for Manchester United. He gives back to his school and enjoys owning west coast customs. The football team has been a combined 3-37 in the past 4 years. 2008-09 season has had an amazing start-off with winning the first 2 games. The current record right now is 2-3 and the JV is 3-1. The schedule is located here http://www.bryan.k12.ga.us/rhhs/Athletics/Fall/VAR.%20FOOTBALL%20SCHEDULE%202008.pdf]
In 2003, the Richmond Hill boys
tennis team ventured to the Final Four state tournament in Atlanta, where they lost to the team fromThe Westminster Schools . The team consisted of T.C. Lauer, Cory Trankle, Kyle Finnegan, Stephano Bertaloto, Mark Hodges, Chris Reade, and Ben Giddens. The 2002 Wildcat tennis team also went to the state tournament, but their run ended shortly in the first round. The team, though, was lead by the top two doubles teams in the state with David Keen and Mike Canestrari at number one doubles and Mark Hodges and Ben Giddens at number two doubles. The combined record of the two doubles teams were 43-1.There are also relatively new tennis courts built next to the baseball and softball fields, as well as a new track built next to the football field mostly for use by the school's track team and gym classes. The school's tennis team used to have to practice and play at the nearby recreational park's tennis courts on Timber Trail. There is also a
golf team that plays at the nearby Waterford Landing Golf Course. The newest sport added iswrestling introduced in the 2006-2007 school year which has also performed above expectations in its first two years of existence coached by Mr.Moret.
