Alabama (USA ), representing the 14th District since 2002. He represents portions of Jefferson, Shelby, Bibb and Chilton Counties.Biography
Erwin is the son of Henry Eugene "Red" Erwin, Sr., a
U.S. Army Air Forces sergeant who earned theMedal of Honor inWorld War II . He was born inBirmingham, Alabama and graduated fromEnsley High School in 1967 before going on to earn degrees at Troy State University (1972), Southwestern Bible College (1974) and theDallas Seminary (1981)Erwin began working as a broadcaster as a seminary student in Dallas, hosting a Christian-themed sports call-in show on
KCBI-FM before moving to television news reporting. He continued his radio career after returning to Alabama with stops atWDJC-FM andWYDE-AM . His success in motivating audiences led the "Birmingham Post-Herald " to label him "the Larry King of the born-again set in Birmingham." He currently hosts an hour-long daily television program, "The Hank Erwin Show" onWOTM-LP , which is hosted on a public access channel in Birmingham and Montgomery byCharter Communications .Erwin was elected to the
Alabama State Senate in 2002, and won 54% of the vote in the 2006 Republican Primary against two challengers. During his tenure,he has been named the 2005 Legislator of the Year by theVeterans of Foreign Wars . He won respect for his efforts to help military veterans, defeat expanded gambling, and protect churches from expanded intrusion. He and his wife, Shelia, head "S.A.V. America Ministries" which hopes to foster a "moral and spiritual revival" for the United States through Bible studies, preaching, rallies, radio, television and home seminars.References
