LaLonde report

LaLonde report

The LaLonde report is a 1974 report produced in Canada entitled "A new perspective on the health of Canadians". It is considered the first report acknowledged by a major industrialised nation to state that health is determined by more than just biological factors. As a result of this, it proposed a so-called field of health. This health field represented health as being dependent upon four related aspects - biology, environment, lifestyle and access to healthcare services. Furthermore, it emphasized lifestyle and personal responsibility and found that determinants of health existed outside of the health care system. It was also fundamental in identifying health inequalities.
