Andrey Soloviev (Russian:"Соловьёв Андрей Борисович") (died
September 27 1993 ) was a Russianwar photographer .He was killed by
sniper fire while covering the battle forSukhumi in Abkhazian war.Soloviev studied at the
Moscow Institute ofarchitecture but never graduated. Instead, he became aphotojournalist , joining the Itar-TASS news agency in 1987. He also worked as a stringer for theAssociated Press .After the break-up of the
USSR , Andrey Soloviev covered many armed conflicts, including inNagorno-Karabakh ,Transdniestria ,Tajikistan ,Uzbekistan ,South Ossetia . He also filmed the aftermath of the 1988earthquake in Armenia, the collapse of the regime ofNicolae Ceauşescu , and was inIraq during thefirst Gulf War .His photographs received numerous awards, including the
World Press Photo prize.
