Jehu August Crowdy Jr.

Jehu August Crowdy Jr.

Rabbi Jehu August Crowdy Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Rabbi Jehu A. Crowdy, Sr. and Sylvia W. Crowdy. He is a great-grandson of Prophet William S. Crowdy and is currently the spiritual leader of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, one of the oldest Hebrew Israelite congregations started in the United States.

Rabbi Crowdy received his early academic education in Philadelphia, and graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Crowdy was also reared in the Church of God and Saints of Christ at a young age, serving as a choir member and officer.

While studying at Temple University, Jehu began an intense, critical study of the Bible, and his spirituality and faith intensified. Rabbi Levi S. Plummer (leader of the Church of God and Saints of Christ at that time), took note of Crowdy's spiritual growth and mental aptitude and in 1992 ordained him to the ministry as an Elder at the age of 22. Elder Crowdy's early ministerial life was spent traveling to the many tabernacles throughout America where he honed and developed his tremendous talents for preaching and teaching.

In December 1997 when Rabbi Levi S. Plummer had taken ill, Rabbi Plummer named Elder Crowdy as his successor. Four months later, in April 1998, Rabbi Levi consecrated Crowdy, at the age of 28, to the office of Rabbi. Soon after, Rabbi Crowdy continued to extensively travel to herald the gospel throughout the country.

On November 18, 2001, Rabbi Jehu A. Crowdy, Jr. assumed the mantle of leadership at the demise of his spiritual mentor and friend Rabbi Plummer.
