Royston Vasey

Royston Vasey is a small fictional town in the north of England. It is the setting of the BBC television comedy series "The League of Gentlemen". The preceding (radio) series "On the Town with the League of Gentlemen" was set in the (equally fictional and almost identical) town of Spent.

Town

The town has a sign which ominously declares "Welcome to Royston Vasey. You'll never leave", apparently a play on the former slogan for Gloucester that was dropped after the Fred West scandalFact|date=July 2008. The first building the visitor comes across is the "local shop", ironically located on a lonely hillside moor. The town itself is some way away from the local shop, but can be accessed by a small hill track and a new railway line.

The town has many inhabitants:
* Edward and his sister (and also wife) Tubbs, who own the local shop, an odd little building that stands on its own in a field close to the town sign.
* Hilary Briss (a play on Bris?) the butcher
* Pauline the restart officer
* Dr Chinnery the cursed Veterinary surgeon
* Barbara the transsexual taxi driver

Facts

* Royston Vasey is the real name of comedian Roy 'Chubby' Brown, who played the part of the town's Mayor in a cameo appearance.
* The town of Royston has nothing to do with Royston Vasey
* The filming of the television series took place in the Derbyshire town of Hadfield
