The original
Kilmaurs station was opened on26 June 1873 by theGlasgow, Barrhead and Kilmarnock Joint Railway . The buildings on the Up platform (the platform for trains to Kilmarnock and the South) was destroyed by fire in 1914 and replaced by a brick building which, until its closure in 1966, was the only one in south west Scotland to be centrally heated.fact|date=June 2007 To the south of the station, a signal box containing 17 levers controlled the section and allowed access to a goods yard.The station officially closed on
7 November 1966 .Butt,] To mark the occasion two days earlier onGuy Fawkes Night several detonators were placed on the railway line from the Habbieauld Road bridge down into the village.fact|date=June 2007 The station was packed and a good number of villagers travelled the short distance into Kilmarnock on the last train. That night also saw the retiral of Willie Cuthbert, who worked at the station for most of his working life.fact|date=June 2007The current station opened on
12 May 1984 . Again the station was packed, a brass band played music for the travellers, a marquee was pitched in the car park from which the local Scout Group, 27th Ayrshire, served tea and coffee. Willie Cuthbert was an invited guest at the re-opening and was one of the first passengers to board the train for Glasgow, where a buffet was served to the 'invited guests'.fact|date=June 2007ervice
2007 service pattern
*Mondays to Saturdays - an hourly service northbound to Glasgow Central and southbound to Kilmarnock, with selected services extended beyond Kilmarnock towards Carlisle and Ayr.
