- Patrick Smith (journalist)
Patrick Smith is an Australian sports journalist.
He is noted for his opinionated and controversial pieces in "The Australian" newspapers' sports section. He also appears on "Kevin Bartlett on SEN 1116
He writes pieces on political issues in sport mainly, including the internal runnings of Australian rules football and Athletics Australia. In recent times, Smith has joined increasing number of Tour De France critics, declaring that cycling is a sport he "would not cover", due to the constant and incessant raft of drug cheats being caught.
In 2006, Smith won the award for best column in the AFL Media Awards, beating several noted journalists, such as Caroline Wilson of The Age, and Mike Sheahan of The Herald Sun
Patrick has also shown an adverse opinion of Dick Pratt, the current Carlton President. Up to 6 articles have appeared in The Australia decrying Pratt's suitablility to preside over the club since his conviction of price fixing. In fact in his most recent article, Smith repeatedly referred to Pratt as "price fixer" rather than use his name.
Patrick Smith is hated by almost 79% of AFL Football Followers in a recent Poll conducted by a Radio Presenter (Rippa) Rita Panahi.
