Summit is an unincorporated community in Boyd County,
Kentucky ,United States . It is located along theUS 60 corridor which is just west of the city of Ashland. Due to its proximity to the city, Summit is often considered to be a part of Ashland, although officially it is independent and serves as a suburb of the city. Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 288,649. The community was given the name Summit due to the fact that it is located on a flat to slightly hilly area with no valleys and is of a much higher elevation than other parts of the area. The area mainly grew around the Federal Correctional Institution that is located on State Highway 716 in Summit.Education
