June 18 ,1955 ) is a Canadian politician and the current Member of Parliament. How He Wins
Abbotsford is a safe seat for Ed Fast. Large number of
Mennonites are based in Abbotsford and will vote for Ed as long he doesn't make some crazy mistake. Older religious population of Abbotsford is sold on conservatives. Ed hasn't achieved anything particularly for Abbotsford (locally) but he does manage to remain in front of eyeballs like his predecessor Randy White. Other parties don't think they can win in Abbotsford so the candidates that run under Liberal or NDP banners are usually part time politicians.Income Trust Legislation
Ed Fast continues to support the new proposed rules for income trusts introduced by the Conservatives October 31, 2006. Recently, Fast's private member's bill C-277 received royal assent. The bill increases from five to 10 years in prison the maximum sentence for luring children over the internet for sexual purposes. He believes that this bill is a significant step forward in better protecting vulnerable young children against sexual predators.
Heritage Committee Work
Recently, as a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Canadian Heritage, Fast received attention, along with NDP Burnaby-Douglas MP
Bill Siksay , for his impassioned challenge to CBC executives regarding the controversial changes planned forCBC Radio 2 and their termination of theCBC Radio Orchestra based in Vancouver. In May 2008, Fast and the rest of the Heritage committee unanimously voted to hold hearings on the changes to CBC Radio 2.References
