Fisherman's Village is a waterfront visitor attraction in
Marina del Rey, California . It is a built in the style of aNew England fishing village. Its tallest building is alighthouse .Its waterfront offers a good view of Marina del Rey's dominant feature, as one of the largest man-made small boat
harbors in the world, with about 5,300 pleasure boats andyacht s.The Village includes restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and most of the public boating operations for the community.
Activities
*Hourly boat rentals (kayaks, power, electric and sail) are available daily.
*Public open party fishing trips are offered twice daily from the docks.
*Public harbor tours, dinner dance and Sunday brunch cruises depart from Fisherman's Village.
*Fisherman's Village connects with the Ballona Creek Bicycle Trail and the coastal South Bay Bicycle Trail. Bicycle rentals are available in the village.
*Free
live music concerts are held every weekend afternoon (weather permitting) near the lighthouse.*The
UCLA and LMU rowing teams practice both in nearbyBallona Creek and in the main harbor.*Annual 4th of July Fireworks are shot from the Main Channel near Fisherman's Village.
*Annual Holiday Boat Parade is held the 2nd Saturday of December. Boaters decorate their vessels for the holidays and parade through the Marina. Fisherman's Village and nearby Burton Chace Park offer the best sites for viewing the parade.
Fisherman's Village in television and film
*Scenes involving The Bluth Banana Stand in the television program "Arrested Development" were filmed next to the lighthouse in Fisherman's Village. Although set in Newport Beach and Balboa Island,
California , the show was primarily filmed in locations around Culver City and Marina del Rey.*The dates that occur on the program "Blind Date" have often been filmed at "Shanghai Red's", a restaurant at the far end of Fisherman's Village.
*The Village was also the filming location for several scenes in the popular Fox TV series, "
