The band formed inMelbourne, Australia , in 2004, currently comprising of vocalist/guitarist Matthew Wright, guitarist Clint Splattering, bassist Dave Anderson and drummer Aaron Barnett. In 2006 The Getaway Plan signed toBoomtown Records and made their debut release through a label, an EP titled "Hold Conversation ". They found commercial success upon the release of their debutstudio album "Other Voices, Other Rooms", in 2008. Members of The Getaway Plan met while attending
Sandringham College , inMelbourne ,Australia . They had played in bands previously, including: Conked Out, Jebuz, She Spits Macabre and Thirtyfivehours. In November 2004, the members came together and formed The Getaway Plan.The group combines pop melodies and screamo rock in a blend described as "a case of Thrice meets Jeff Buckley meets Underoath". In 2006, the band signed with
Boomtown Records and released anEP , "Hold Conversation". Tracks from the EP received airplay on Australian national youth radio stationTriple J , including medium rotation for the track "If The Suspense Doesn't Kill Us, Something Else Will..."The band traveled to
Florida to record their debut album titled "Other Voices, Other Rooms". The first single 'Streetlight' surfaced on November 3, 2007. "Other Voices, Other Rooms" debuted at #14 on the NationalARIA Charts , #3 on the AustralianARIA Charts and #1 on theAIR Charts (Both 100% Indie and 100% Label Charts). Second Week of Release, "Other Voices, Other Rooms" held #31 on the NationalARIA Charts , #7 on the AustralianARIA Charts , #3 on theAIR charts for 100% Indie and #4 on theAIR Charts for 100% Indie Labels, while the first single "Streetlight" still holds #20 on the AIR singles chart for 100% Indie Labels. The second song from the album "Where the City Meets the Sea" was released as a single in Australia on March 15th viaBoomtown Records /Shock Records .Tours
Since forming in November 2004, they have toured nationally with various bands, including
Goodnight Nurse ,Taking Back Sunday ,The Used ,Unwritten Law ,Alkaline Trio ,Eighteen Visions , Silverstein,Strike Anywhere ,Anberlin ,Bodyjar ,Antiskeptic ,I Killed The Prom Queen ,Millencolin ,Kisschasy ,Closure In Moscow andMy Chemical Romance .The band recently completed a national Australian tour for
Other Voices, Other Rooms . This tour included shows in every capital city nationwide, some with more than one show in each. Australian rock acts Elora Danan from Perth and Stealing O'Neal from Melbourne accompanied them and the tour was a great success with several sold out locations.As well as larger venues such as The Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne and Spectrum Club in Sydney, The Getaway Plan played several instore locations for free.The band toured Australia nationwide with USA's The Donnas and Australian rock/pop act Kisschasy in May 2008.
In June/July 2008 the band set off on their nationwide headlining tour titled "Where the City Meets the Sea Tour 08"
They are set to support
Simple Plan during their Australian tour in October, 2008.The Band announced that they filmed a show in Melbourne for a future DVD. The show filmed was at The Hi-Fi Bar & Ballroom, and was an under 18's event on the 5th July 2008. The release date has not been set.
