Howard Hayes Scullard (
February 9 ,1903 –March 31 ,1983 ) was a Britishhistorian specializing inancient history , notable for editing the "Oxford Classical Dictionary " and for his many books.Scullard's father was Herbert Hayes Scullard, a minister, and his mother Barbara Louisa Dodds.
Born in Bedford,
England , his early education was atHighgate School , followed by St. John's College,Cambridge . He was a tutor and thenreader at New College, from 1935 to 1959, when he became Professor of Ancient History atKing's College London , retiring in 1970.Books
