By
1956 , the Erie Railroad began moving its operations out of the Pavonia terminal and into theDelaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad 'sHoboken, New Jersey terminal. This predated the railroads' merger by several years. The New York, Susquehanna and Western continued to operate trains in and out of the terminal until late 1958. The terminal sat abandoned until 1961, when it was razed.
Today
No visible traces of Pavonia Terminal remain today. Much of the land occupied by the station has undergone redevelopment in recent years. The area, known as Newport, is home to a busy mall, offices, and housing. PATH's Pavonia/Newport station still bears the letter "E" (for "Erie") engraved on its pillars.
