It starredTony Shalhoub as eccentric horror novelist Ian Stark, who is obsessed with practical jokes;Neil Patrick Harris as Stark's reluctant editor Henry McNeeley, who suffers from a variety of phobias and possibly obsessive-compulsive disorder; andEddie McClintock , in a supporting role as Jake Donovan. OnJanuary 10 ,2000 the sitcom won a People's Choice Award for Favorite New Television Comedy Series. The sitcom premiered onSeptember 23 ,1999 and was officially cancelled by NBC onApril 15 ,2000 . After the show's cancellation Shalhoub moved on to a starring role in the TV series "Monk" -- a role not unlike Harris's role in "Stark Raving Mad".Margaret 'Maddie' Keller was to be played by
