Transport Scotland was created on
1 January 2006 as the national transport agency ofScotland . It is an Executive Agency of theScottish Government's Enterprise, Transport and Lifelong Learning Department and accountable toScottish Ministers . The Agency is comprised of five directorates. They are:

* Strategy & Investment
*Trunk Road sInfrastructure & Professional Services
* Trunk Road Network Management
* Finance & Corporate ServicesTransport Scotland works in partnership with private sector transport operators, local authorities and government. It also works closely with the four current voluntary regional transport partnerships (RTPs). The Scottish Executive is bringing forward [http://www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations/transport/rtpc-00.asp legislation for the creation of statutory RTPs] which will be able to take a strategic view of the transport needs of people and businesses in each region.

* Coordinating theNational Transport Strategy for Scotland
* Liaison with regional transport partnerships, including monitoring of funding
* Sustainable transport,road safety andaccessibility
* Local roads policy and casework
*Aviation , bus, freight and taxi policy

Railways
In September 2008 Transport Scotland announced that all
First ScotRail trains (including from theStrathclyde Partnership for Transport ) would be eventually repainted in a new, blue livery with whiteSaltire markings on the carriage ends.
