The station is known as "Lone Star 92.5." The format debutedApril 23 , 2007. Thecall letters date back to 1986. In April 2008, KZPS changed back to classic rock, keeping the "Lonestar 92.5" branding.The station's current format also involves the dropping of conventional 30-second and 60-second ads in favor of sponsored hours with
disk jockeys promoting sponsors conversationally. The previous classic rock format was heard on 92.5 HD-2 (HD Radio ). 92.5 HD-2 recently switched to an AAA format branded as "The Summit".History
The frequency debuted in 1948 with the KRLD
call sign . The station initiallysimulcast with Dallas station KRLD-AM. The station was one of only three 24-hour FM stations in the Dallas market in the 1960s. A progressive rock format was instituted in the early 1970s.The call letters changed to KAFM in 1972, and the station underwent a number of format changes through the 1970s and 1980s, including
top 40 ,classic hits andjazz before settling on a long-standingclassic rock format.A number of different owners have owned the station, beginning with
Metromedia and Times Herald Printing. Clear Channel bought the station from Evergreen Media, which had acquired it fromBonneville International in 1997.Notable disk jockeys from the many who have worked at the station include Sam "Bo" Roberts and "Long" Jim White ("
