Byåsen Idrettslag is a multi-sport club from
Trondheim ,Norway , founded in 1921. The club has around 2000 members divided into 9 departments: Children's allsports, football, athletics,handball ,orienteering ,skiing ,cycling ,exercise andtheater .Handball
The women's handball team quickly became the flagship of Byåsen, when they in 1980 managed to qualify for the Norwegian Cup Final, as a 3rd division team. They have since won the top league 5 times (86/87, 87/88, 89/90, 95/96, 97/98) and appeared in the cup final 12 times, winning 3 (88, 89 and 91). The team have played in the Eliteserie since 1984.

The men's team are currently playing in the 2nd Division, and the women compete in the 2nd Division.

The ski team is divided in two categories;
cross country skiing andski jumping /nordic combined . Five of its members competed in the2006 Winter Olympics ;Tor Arne Hetland andKristin Mürer Stemland in cross country,Magnus Moan andPetter Tande in nordic combined ogTommy Ingebrigtsen in ski jumping. BiathletesLars Berger andOle Einar Bjørndalen , who participate in cross country skiing from time to time, are members as well.External links
