Tem Barkwater

Tem Barkwater

Tem Barkwater is a fictional character in the children's book series "The Edge Chronicles". He appears in "Clash of the Sky Galleons", "Beyond the Deepwoods", "Stormchaser", and "Freeglader". He first appears serving under Wind Jackal on the "Galerider" and follows Quint after Wind Jackal's death. We are told that Quint found him being whipped in the Timber Glades by a wood merchant. Quint repays the merchant in kind and rescues Tem, who is soon taken under the wing of Steg Jambles. During this time, he reveals that he and his brother were forced to work as tarry vine bait for wood merchants attempting to get hold of Bloodoak timber. He was whipped for helping his brother to escape. He joins Spillins, the Stone Pilot and Duggin in a sky ferry business between Clash of the Sky Galleons and Beyond the Deepwoods. He served on the Stormchaser under Captain Quintinius Verginix, aka, Cloud Wolf. He seems to have spent a long time on the Stormchaser from the way he speaks about the battles the crew have been involved in. After Cloud Wolf's disappearance in Stormchaser, he is first to pledge allegiance to Twig, but is soon lost in the Twilight Woods after the crew abandoned the Stormchaser. However, he survives leaving the Twilight Woods, making him a "Death-Cheater" He was found by Shrykes and sold as a slave. He was presumed dead, but returned in "Freeglader". He is Rook's great uncle. It was then that he gave Cloud Wolf's sword miniature from the Knights Academy to Rook. It had been passed onto Twig who gave it to his daughter Keris, it was then taken from Keris's dead hand by Tem Barkwater who then passed it on to Rook. By the time of the events of The Blooding of Rufus Filatine, he seems to have died, described as having "lived out the rest of his days in the New Bloodoak Tavern."
