- George Blair
George Blair was a former back for the University of Mississippi Rebels (Ole Miss), playing in the 1958 Gator Bowl(Florida), and the 1959(LSU) and 1960(Rice) Sugar Bowls; played in 1961 Senior Bowl (Mobile) and College All-Star Game in Chicago against Phil. Eagles after his senior year at Ole Miss. He played professionally in the American Football League with the San Diego Chargers. He was drafted in the second round of the 1960 American Football League Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers his junior year, but did not play until the team moved to San Diego his senior year in 1961. He played in the first American Football League All-Star game|AFL All-Star] in 1961 AFL season, and on the Chargers' 1963 AFL season American Football League AFL Championship game team against the Boston Patriots. He was third in scoring in the AFL in 1963. He led the Chargers in scoring 1961, 1962 and 1963---kicking. He also played left safety on defense. Blair injuried his knee during his fourth year, during a game against the Patriots, and was unable to return for his fifth year. He was also drafted by the New York Giants his junior year in college as a future draft in the sixth round.Blair married Jo Ann Noble and they have three children: Shelley, Mary and Josh. He retired from coaching at Laurel High School in 1995. He coached at Laurel High,Ms., University of Mississippi, Oxford High,Ms., McComb High,Ms. and Laurel High,Ms. This past year(2007), the Laurel City Schools named the field at Watkins Stadium after Blair. Naming the field.."Blair Field". He had a brother, Earl Blair, who also played for Ole Miss (HB) and went on to play for the Canadian Football League for one year in 1956.
