Beathard was the 1964 first-round draft choice of the AFL's
Kansas City Chiefs . In 1967 Beathard was traded to the Houston Oilers in exchange for quarterback Jacky Lee and led the Oilers to the AFL Eastern Division title before losing to theOakland Raiders 40-7 in the AFL Championship Game. Beathard took the Oilers to the AFL playoffs again in 1969.He finished his pro career in the WFL playing for the
Portland Storm in 1974 and theChicago Winds in 1975.ee also
