Marin Bunić

Marin Bunić

Marin Bunić, also Marino Bona, (born April 24, 1924 in Dubrovnik, Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, died in Peru February 24 1994), was a Croatian World War II survivor. His father was a member of the Bunić family (an old Dubrovnik noble family), his mother was a Croatian from Dubrovnik. Bunić studied medicine at the University of Zagreb, but was forced to end his studies shortly before graduating, due to the German invasion of Yugoslavia. He moved to Italy and worked at the Hospital of Trani. A year later, Bunić led a wave of Croatian immigrants to the Peruvian capital of Lima aboard the "General Black". He was affectionally nicknamed "Nono" (Chakavian Croatian for "grandfather") by his followers and helped establish the flourishing Croatian-Peruvian community of Miraflores District.
