The area is largely residential, with Bitterne Park Triangle (sometimes shortened to 'Bitterne Triangle' or simply 'The Triangle') as its focal point. A number of shops cluster around The Triangle, including Tesco Express and a CWS Co-operative Welcome store, a traditional
butcher , agreengrocer , abakery , second-hand furniture and Persian carpet shops, a chiropody clinic (Footmatters), a dental laboratory, aBarnardo's charity shop and a newly established art gallery; "Spice Art Studios".There have been no banking facilities since the closure of
NatWest 's Triangle branch in the 1990s and later the Post Office branch; however, there is a cash machine in the Co-operative store. There has been a recent boom intake-away restaurants in Bitterne Triangle, including a fish and chip shop, akebab house, Chinese restaurants, Thai restaurants and an Indian restaurant.Bitterne Park is also home to several schools, a local library, and a Buddhist Centre. Bitterne Park is at the Eastern edge of the
Cobden Bridge , which links the area to St. Denys on the Western bank of the Itchen. The Southern section of Southampton's Riverside Park is located in Bitterne Park, providing pleasant walks along the Itchen, up to and beyond the reach of the tide at Woodmill, where thecircular saw was invented.References
