digital cable specialty channel dedicated to presenting women insports . It was believed to be the world's firsttelevision service dedicated solely to women's sports. The network was headed by pioneering Canadian sports broadcaster
Sue Prestedge .WTSN was owned by CTV Speciality Television Inc; a division of
CTVglobemedia (80%) andESPN (20%). It was a spinoff ofThe Sports Network (TSN). WTSN first began broadcasting onSeptember 7 ,2001 and ceased operations onSeptember 30 ,2003 , due to lack of expected growth, limited ad revenue and high cost of running a sports service. However, TSN did not immediately surrender the channel's licence, and as late as January 2005, filed an intervention with the
Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) against a proposed licence amendment forFox Sports World Canada that may have impacted on WTSN's mandate. It was therefore considered possible that the channel might have relaunched if economic conditions were found to be more favourable. However, the licence was eventually [http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Decisions/2006/db2006-680.htm revoked] , at the company's request, onDecember 19 ,2006 .External links
