"12 and Holding" is a 2005 film directed by Michael Cuesta. The film is distributed by IFC Films and was released on May 19, 2006 in limited theaters.

Plot

The film explores dark adolescent issues through the minds of three friends and their reactions after a boy (played by Conor Donovan) dies in a tree house set on fire by local bullies.

The boy's twin brother (also played by Donovan) decides to seek revenge, while an overweight survivor of the fire (played by Jesse Camacho) loses his sense of taste and smell, leaving him to force his obese mother to lose weight. Meanwhile, the boys' female friend (played by Zoe Weizenbaum) tries to seduce a grief-stricken patient of her therapist mother (played by Annabella Sciorra). Jacob's family falls apart after the death of his brother. But soon, his parents adopt a boy so he wont feel alone. Leonard is tired of being overweight and thanks to the fire, he eats healthy. Meanwhile, Malee sees an older man as her "soul mate". She sneaks into his house one night to find him grieving. Afraid to confront him, Malee steals his gun and leaves. Jacob frequently visits his brothers murderer, who is serving time in a juvenile hall. Jacob threatens the boy with death threats, but then befriends him after the suicide of a friend and fellow hallmate. Then, they plan an escape out of town. Malee then visits the man she loves and removes her clothes. She fails to seduce him when he calls her mother. The night of escape for Jacob comes and he meets with the boy. Jacob then insists on going on a secret route through construction houses. Jacob then points a gun [the gun Malee stole from the patient, she gave it to him to hide] at the murderer. He tells him he had it coming and shoots him. He then buries the body under a construction house. The film ends with him staring at the house with the body near completion.
