KPNT is a commercial radio station located in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, broadcasting to the St. Louis, Missouri area on 105.7 FM. KPNT airs a mainly active rock music format with just a hint of modern rock branded as "The Point".

History

KPNT signed on in 1967 with the call letters, KSGM-FM. In 1987, the radio station completed a signal upgrade giving the radio station signal coverage of the St. Louis, Missouri metropolitan area. KSGM-FM launched an adult contemporary music format with the new call letters, KSTZ.

On March 6, 1991, KSTZ was rebranded as "The Fox" with a new set of call letters, KFXB to better match new branding. KFXB began a simulcast on sister station WFXB (now WMVN on 101.1 FM.

The simulcast was broken in February of 1993, when KFXB adopted the current call letters, KPNT, with a modern rock music format, partly inspired by the runaway success of Saint Louis's first full-time alternative rock music station, KYMC, a small non-profit station broadcasting out of Ballwin.

In 2006, KPNT expanded the playlist to include a wider variety of modern rock artists with still a strong emphasis on active rock leaning artists. The new slogan, "Everything Alternative" was adopted to promote this change.

pecialty Programming

A feature known as "My Shuffle" was promoted on their website allowing listeners to create their own five-song playlist. Some of the listener's five-song playlists air on KPNT during a show known as the "My Shuffle Lunch" program which airs at 12:00PM or during specialty "My Shuffle Weekends."

Personalities

The Point's first run of morning shows included one that featured personalities Jeff Burton, Trish Gazall, and Thom West (Thom and Jeff now broadcast in the 2 P.M. time slot). They then picked up Howard Stern after the station merged with then Extreme Radio 104.1 (WXTM-FM). After the demise of the Howard Stern show which moved to Sirius Satellite Radio, KPNT added the syndicated Cleveland based morning show Rover's Morning Glory.

On January 26, 2007, it was announced that the Rover's Morning Glory show was to be replaced by local DJ Donnie Fandango's "The Fandango Experiment". According to their website, this was due to many requests for a morning radio show with less talk and more music. The syndicated talk show, Loveline, airs on Sunday-Thursday at 10 pm.

KPNT is also well-known for promoting an annual music festival known as Pointfest.
