Coco's Bakery. The name was changed from The Snack Shop to Coco's after John and Audrey's pet French Poodle, Coco.

John and Audrey went to her dad, John McIntyre, and asked him to loan them the money to buy the restaurant. He refused to loan them money but instead offered to go into partnership with them. That early start turned into locations in Santa Ana and Huntington Beach as well as the original Snack Shop in Corona Del Mar. across PCH from Merle's Drive In where we all used to hang out as teens. It eventually was incorporated as Far West Services.

Coco's Bakery Restaurant is a chain of casual dining restaurants operating in the Western portion of the United States.

Locations

As of 2002^[update], the chain operates over 115 restaurants in California, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado.

History

In 1948, The Snack Shop along the Pacific Coast Highway in Corona del Mar, California was purchased by John and Audrey McIntosh. John and Audrey decided to purchase the restaurant after he had worked there for only two weeks. They grew the snack shop concept to many more units and then in 1960 expanded the business into Reuben's in Newport Beach. Then in 1965 expanded the Snack Shop concept to Coco's and the Reuben E. Lee. Ultimately converting all Snack Shops into Coco's. As the name implies, the restaurant features pies. In 2002, Coco's, along with its sister chain Carrows, was purchased by Catalina Restaurant Group, headquartered in Carlsbad, California.

Competition

In California, Coco's Bakery/Carrows competes directly with Marie Callender's and Bakers Square restaurants.
