History

1988–1991: 41Fivin and Nu Niggaz on Tha Blokkk

The group takes its name from the telephone area code 415, which originally served San Francisco and Oakland; it has since split in 1992 with San Francisco retaining 415 while Oakland became served by the new area code 510. 415 released its debut 41Fivin in 1988. Two years later, Richie Rich released his debut solo album, Don't Do It, which featured production from DJ Daryl and J.E.D. and guest appearances from D-Loc and Lady Ace. That same year D-Loc released his own solo debut, Split Personality, which also featured strong participation from the other members of 415. Although he did not perform on the album, Richie Rich wrote the songs for Split Personality.[1]

Later that year the group was ready to sign a major-label contract with Priority Records, however Richie Rich was arrested for possession of cocaine.[2] 415 released their second and final album of new material, Nu Niggaz on Tha Blokkk, without any participation from Richie Rich, as he was spending one year in jail. Although their second album fared well on the Billboard charts, the group faded from the scene soon after.

1994 – present: DJ Daryl and Richie Rich solo projects

After Richie Rich was released from prison, he went on to release four solo albums, from 1996-2002. Each of those albums featured production from DJ Daryl.

Along with working with several West Coast hip hop artists, DJ Daryl released a compilation with his crew in 1999, titled DJ Daryl's Block Monstaz.

D-Loc has not resurfaced with new material since 1994, when he contributed a guest spot on the compilation, Sip The Juice, We Got Enough To Go Around released on Tuff Break Records.[3]

J.E.D. put together two greatest hits packages, Big League Records Greatest Hits in 1999 and Richie Rich's Greatest Hits in 2000, both featuring songs previously released between 1988 and 1991.

Chart history

The group's most successful album was Nu Niggaz on Tha Blokkk, which peaked at #21 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and reached #90 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums in 1991.[4]
