- Tim Etchells
Tim Etchells is a
Sheffield (UK) based artist who is the artistic director of [http://www.forcedentertainment.com/ Forced Entertainment] , a theatre company founded in 1984. With Forced Entertainment he has directed, written, and occasionally performed in, dozens of critically acclaimed performance works that have been shown at major festivals and theatres around the world. Forced Entertainment has had a huge impact on the development of a uniquely British style of avant-garde performance and their work is now included as part of the theatrical canon to students studying contemporary performance. Taking a cue from their provocative name, Forced Entertainment's work is often concerned with the mechanics of the live event - disrupting conventions and expectations associated with attending a theatrical performance.Tim has developed his own practice as an artist outside of Forced Entertainment by authoring several books, collaborating with thephotographer [http://www.dsanim.com/hugo/dev/ Hugo Glendinning] on photo projects, exhibiting works in neon and on video, and through writing and performance projects with an ever-expanding group of artists from around the world (including
Franko B and [http://www.vlatkahorvat.com/ Vlatka Horvat] ). His books include a critical exploration of contemporary performance and theatre as well as an introduction to his work with Forced Entertainment titled [http://www.amazon.com/dp/0415173833/ Certain Fragments] , a book of short stories titled [http://www.amazon.com/dp/1901072126/ Endland Stories] , an ironic dream dictionary titled [http://www.amazon.com/dp/0715631543/ the Dream Dictionary for the Modern Dreamer] , and an upcoming novel titled The Broken World. He has curated several festivals and exhibitions and is a regular contributor to publications about art and theatre.External links
