Thalayolaparambu (Malayalam) is a village town situated in Kottayam district of Kerala state, India. It belongs to the Vaikom legislative assembly and Kottayam parliament constituency, is one of the towns between Kottayam and Ernakulam. This village was the home of famous personalities like Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, A. J. John, Anaparambil, K. G. Balakrishnan and Vaikom Vanaja Sankar(Principal, RLV Music College, Thripurnithura).

History

Economy

This small town hosts the biggest 'Chantha' or the make shift market of the locality. In ancient days, large barges, much like country boats, transported goods from Alapuzha to Thalayolaparambu through the intricate networks of waterways. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people here. Nowadays sand mining is also part of this area's economy. A small portion of the population is in Persian Gulf countries.Federal Bank, Lord Krishna Bank, State Bank of Travancore, North Malabar Gramin Bank and Canara Bank have branches at Thalayolaparambu. However, CANARA BANK and the State Bank of Travancore has its ATMs at Thalayolaparambu. Both are at "Pallikavala".

Temples, Churches, Mosques

The relegious harmony of the place is evident as one can see the churches, temples and mosques situated close to each other.

Among the temples in thalayolaparambu Pundareekapuram temple is famous for its wall paintings.The walls of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple are covered with exquisite paintings which depicts episodes from the Hindu myths and Puranas. The murals in this temple are some of the best in Kerala.It is situated in Midayikunnam.

There are three churches in Thalayolaparambu. St. George Church, St. Michael's Church and St. Antony's Church.

Mohiyudheen masjid situated in the market is one of the important mosques in this locality.Other mosques in this locality includes Sainudheen thangal thaikavu,Palankadavu thaikavu etc

Entertainment

There are three cinema theatres in Thalayolaparambu. Queen of Sheeba, Nice Movie House, and New Ragam. Queen of Sheeba is one of the biggest cinema theatres in Kerala for seating capacity.
