(2007)The US edition of "Slowly" compiles previously unreleased remixes of the first single by American pop
singer Khanoda released from his 1998 mock hits collection, "klosure. DISPOSABLE KLASSIX AND OTHER POTENTIAL FAILURES (1988 – 1998) ".ong history
Although two CD singles of “Slowly” were released to promote the European version of Klosure, (“
KLOSURE (1988 – 1998) ”), it would take almost three years after the release of the US version of Khanoda’s mock hits collection, "klosure. DISPOSABLE KLASSIX AND OTHER POTENTIAL FAILURES (1988 – 1998) ," before a single would drop stateside. Released in November 2001, the US version of "Slowly" compiled several remixes recorded between 1998 through 2000, which had been previously unreleased on either side of the Atlantic, most notably the “Glugs + Dramour Bootleg” and “Video Mix.”Although titled "Video Mix", a video was never made for "Slowly." Production was set for September 2000 however, numerous false starts, scheduling conflicts, and, finally, loss of financial backing prevented the production from ever happening. Inspired by the works of artist,
Frida Kahlo , the video's concept was based around four of her paintings, "The Death of Dimas", "The Little Deer", "The Two Fridas" and "Frida Kahlo And Diego Rivera"; and included interpretations of "Self Portrait With Portrait Of Doctor Farill", "Self Portrait As Tehuana (Diego On My Mind)", "Self Portrait Dedicated To Leon Trotsky" and "Portrait Of Luther Burbank". All paintings were used by permission from Frida Kahlo's Estate. The video was to be directed by Sylvain White; a protégé of music video and film directorMichel Gondry . Other directors considered were Mark Eaton (Dead 50's "Short Bus") and Ashley Beck, a former Graphic Effects Designer for numerousMark Romanek videos, including "The Perfect Drug" byNine Inch Nails , and "Bedtime Story" by Madonna.Critical Response
"With a velvety smooth voice and disco groove, Khanoda creates what we'll call techno-centric pop for the new millennium. "Slowly" is a dancefloor charmer that sounds like Information Society and Sisters of Mercy on a bender with Bowie and Brian Eno in Berlin, circa 1977. Its pulsating beat pushes the track into altered states of dementia, giving [his] whispered vocals a sturdy floor upon which to dance."
