shooter game for theSuper Nintendo , developed and published byIrem in 1991, during the system's launch. It is the only non-canon release in theR-Type franchise. It is a semi-port of both "R-Type " and "R-Type II " (mostly inclined towards the latter) with some variations. The game was re-released forWii Virtual Console in North America onMarch 17 ,2008 . Also, this game suffers from slowdown, which was also a problem in many third-party SNES launch games (including "
Gradius III "). But unlike the others Super R-Type slows down to virtual standstill when there are many things on the screen. However, it was useful for players when there were too many shots because it was easier to avoid them. When many enemies are dispatched and the game jumps (without warning) to full speed, players are fooled into accidentally running the ship into a hazard, resulting in instant death and return to the beginning of the stage.Re-releases

Australia .The game was made available on Nintendo Virtual Console in North America on March 17, 2008.
