homepage = [http://www.kunptv.com/ www.kunptv.com]KUNP "Univision Portland" is a full-power broadcast television in the
Pacific Northwest ernUnited States . As an affiliate of theUnivision Spanish television network, the station serves the greater Portland andBend, Oregon metropolitan areas. The station also serves Salem andVancouver, Washington .Technical Information
The station is licensed to the northeastern Oregon town of
La Grande, Oregon and broadcasts on UHF channel 16. It operates with an Effective Radiated Power of 60.3kilowatt s. Because of its physical geographical location of its facilities and transmitters, KUNP relies on its two translators, KUNP-LP, licensed to Portland and broadcasts on UHF channel 47, operating with an ERP of 93.6 kilowatts and KABH-CA, licensed to Bend and broadcasts on UHF channel 15, operating with an ERP of 84 kilowatts. That station serves the greater Bend area. Both KUNP and KUNP-LP are owned and operated byFisher Communications . As for KABH, the station is jointly owned by [http://www.watchtvinc.com WatchTV, Inc.] and its crosstown Portland HSN affiliate stationKORK-CA , but is operated by Fisher under a Local Marketing Agreement. It also relies on cable and satellite coverage across Western and Central Oregon.History
The station was founded on
August 6 ,1999 . It is unknown at this time whether or not the station actually took to the air at the time. But when it did began broadcasting, it began with the KBPD call letters, it would later begin use of the KPOU callsign onMay 14 ,2002 . The call letters changed again -- this time to the current KUNP onDecember 15 ,2006 . KABH was founded onJune 1 ,1992 as K15DO but didn't take to the air untilNovember 3 ,1993 .It was formerly owned by
Equity Broadcasting until the station was acquired byFisher Communications onNovember 3 ,2006 along withKUNS-TV inSeattle, Washington . Fisher would associate the two stations with its already owned ABC affiliatesKATU andKOMO-TV .At one point, KUNP also had
KKEI-CA as another translator prior to the Fisher acquisition. That station now serves Portland as aTelemundo affiliate. Ironically enough, that station is also owned by WatchTV, Inc.Availability on Cable and Satellite
"
Must-carry " regulations imposed by the FCC require mostcable television systems across Oregon to carry KUNP on their lineups. But even with the station's affiliation with Univision, the station is not available on all cable systems, opting for the network's national feed somewhere on their lineups -- or even no Univision service at all.Logos
Digital Switchover
Since KUNP was not on-air by the
April 21 ,1997 deadline for the FCC's DTV allotment plan, the station was not granted a companion digital signal. Therefore, on or beforeFebruary 18 ,2009 , the station will be required to turn off its analog signal and turn on a new digital signal -- which will be on channel 29. This is called a "flash-cut". KUNP-LP and KABH will not be required to switch their signals since they are low-power stations. KABH will relocate on channel 17.http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-06-1082A2.pdf]External links
